Mount Kenya: Sirimon to Chogoria
Up the dry side, down the beautiful one. Point Lenana at sunrise.

- Trekking
Five days across Mount Kenya on the classic traverse, acclimatising on the Sirimon side and descending through the Gorges Valley to Chogoria.
This is a trek, not a climb — no ropes, no technical ground — but 4,985 metres is genuinely high and the last morning starts at three. We walk it in five days rather than four. The extra night at Shipton's is what turns a miserable summit push into a good one.
Day by day
A gentle first afternoon through the forest belt, gaining just enough height to sleep well.

The extra acclimatisation day is the whole trip
I have failed on this mountain before, on a four-day itinerary. Five days and a walk to Hausberg Col made Point Lenana feel almost easy. The crew were paid properly and it showed in how they worked.
