Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu, Cusco and the Urubamba, Peru
Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu
Seven days, acclimatised properly, with the ruins on day six.
- 7 days · 6 nights
- 2–12 travellers
- Moderate
- Trekking
- Culture
Cusco, Pisac, Ollantaytambo and Machu Picchu at a pace that lets 3,400 metres stop mattering before anything is asked of your lungs.
Most itineraries fly people to Cusco and put them on a mountain the next morning. We spend the first two nights lower, in the Sacred Valley, which is 600 metres below the city and the single best thing you can do for how the week feels. Machu Picchu is booked on a morning circuit, and we take the train rather than the Inca Trail — the trek is a different trip, and this one is built for people who want the site, the valley and the food rather than four days under a pack.
Day by day
Met at Cusco airport and driven an hour into the Sacred Valley, where the air is thicker. Coca tea, an early night, no plans.
