Fiordland and the Routeburn
Nine days on the South Island, three of them walking.
- 9 days · 8 nights
- 4–10 travellers
- Challenging
- Trekking
- Coast and islands
Queenstown, the Routeburn track over the Harris saddle, Milford Sound by boat and the glacier valleys at Aoraki.
The Routeburn is one of New Zealand's Great Walks and the best three days of this trip: alpine gardens, a saddle with the Darran mountains laid out behind it, and huts booked months ahead because everybody knows it. Either side of the walk the pace is gentle. We drive the Milford road with the stops that make it worth doing slowly, and finish under Aoraki where the valley floor is grey glacier rock and the peaks are 3,000 metres straight up.
Day by day
